Sฤlim reported on the authority of his father ('Abdullah b. Umar) that he heard Allah's Messenger (๏ทบ) as saying:

It is not proper for a Muslim who has got something to bequeathe to spend even three nights without having his will written down with him regarding it.

'Abdullah b. 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) said: Ever since I heard Allah's Messenger (๏ทบ) say this, I have not spent a night without having my will (written) along with me.

This Hadith emphasises the importance of having a will. The lack of a will results in losses in assets, due to inheritance tax and other factors. (You can save ยฃ9700 by having an Islamic will).

Having a will also helps avoid disputes within the family, especially where the will is written to share the inheritance in the manner prescribed by Allah in the Qurโ€™an (Surah Nisa).

Below is the image, which is known as maqam-e-Ismail, which is in Mina and marks the location of where this happened, signified by the dome-like structure.
