‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud رضي الله تعالى عنه said:

“Indeed, I detest the man who is idle: neither engaged in the occupations of this world, nor in the occupations of the Hereafter.”

- i.e. do something! Engaging in work can also be a means of reward, if your intentions are correct (to provide for your family and loved ones).

A person should strive to be productive and purposeful in life, both in terms of fulfilling worldly responsibilities and seeking spiritual growth or connection with Allah.
